More on Brexit Divorce Deal Possibility

GBP/EUR Jumps as Investor Sentiment Increases on Brexit Divorce Deal Possibility

Reports the UK could be one step closer to a Brexit divorce deal has buoyed the pound against other major currencies this morning, including the euro (GBP/EUR). Sterling rallied as it came to light a £50 billion divorce settlement could be on the table which may appease EU negotiators that have set a 4th December deadline for the UK to show ‘sufficient progress’ has been made. The UK needs to provide clarity on not only the amount it’s willing to pay to leave the currency bloc, but also the rights of EU citizens, and the Irish border—the latter may be a tricky topic to resolve.

If the UK could move onto trade talks with the EU by the end of the year, sterling would likely have some support as the chance of a disorderly Brexit in 2019 slims.

Meanwhile in the Eurozone, there’s been some positive news in the form of ecostats. Employment expectations in the currency bloc have boomed to hit a 32-year high. Additionally, Eurozone companies are currently the most optimistic they’ve been since the Global Financial Crisis (GFC). The European Commission reported an increase in both business and consumer confidence in the month of November, with consumer confidence hitting its highest level since January 2001.

There’s still some influential ecostats due out in the rest of the week, including German inflation numbers later today followed by Eurozone labour market and inflation data on Thursday. UK manufacturing numbers will be out on Friday. However, Brexit developments ahead of the 4th December meeting are likely to be the most influential source of movement for sterling at present.

The GBP/EUR exchange rate has hit highs of 1.1326 in today’s session.

Cle France Website is Easy to Use and Updated Quickly

Hi David,

Cle France website is easy to use - updated quickly and shows the latest properties for sale.

France is a very very big country and when viewing allow time to travel from property to property and expect to be criss-crossing across from town to town - have a good sat nav watch out for speed cameras

I would recommend taking some time to visit an area, staying in a local gite or hotel, trying the food, looking at the local attractions and meeting the locals.

Work out what you need and what you don't. Your money goes a long way here with decent size properties going for a fraction in comparison to UK prices

The more rural the area the cheaper the prices. Remarkable value.

Consider - if you choose a remote property who will look after it while you are away

We chose a small village with direct neighbours, a shop, a bar, a church and a bus route to busy neighbouring towns yet remote enough to fell "in the countryside"

We also chose a stone house, full of history and built to last.

The pace of live is slower and more relaxed - buy a fishing rod or bike and take it easy, enjoy the baguettes cheese cider wine and the best patisserie cakes you have ever eaten.

Cle France agent was extremely helpful and knowledgeable

Hi Sharon,

Firstly (and I will write to her separately with thanks), we spent a wonderful day with your agent in Limousin, a lovely region.

It was a real treat and the Cle France agent was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

What the trip has done is help up realise that we want slightly different things from a property, degree of renovation, location, B&B/holiday rental etc. Everything we saw ticked some boxes, but perhaps not enough for us to mutually agree on (though I personally haven’t ruled a couple of them out completely!)

We hope to return in the New Year. It gives us a bit more time to review everything, and finalise exactly what we are looking for.

Thank you once again for the generous time of your agent and the other staff at Cle France for their support.

I am sorry not to give a more positive answer at this time.

Kind regards, Simon.

No worries Simon, I am sure you will find the right property soon!

Agent was very diligent in her work and professionalism

Hi Sharon,

The process of purchasing a property in another country can at first appear daunting but with a little research the whole process can run very smoothly.

First of all, a lot of reviewing of properties within the general geographical area made things more simple when identifying those properties I wished to view further; but be aware of just how large a country France is. Perhaps it’s best to take a short vacation to interested areas, then prioritise where you want to live, before returning.

Immobliers may wish you to visit several properties and I suggest that you take full advantage of this as there are some properties that aren’t advertised.

Once your decision is made, the next stage is to make a formal offer. The housing report I got was extremely comprehensive and will help to convince you if the investment you are making needs further capital and the extent of any modernization.

Liaising with the Agent / Immobilier was all done by email and she was very diligent in her work and professionalism.

The transfer of funds abroad was my biggest worry, but I sourced a company specialising in this and received instant receipts for any transaction.

I’m happy to say that I now fully own a property in France and look forward to spending a significant amount of time there.

Kind regards,

Michael Butler.
